2019 Wrap Up: Flu Summary & Thanks

Breaking in the new year as we start to re-enter work routines and new year’s health resolutions, it’s a chance to reflect upon 2019 and how influenza played its part in our wellness (or not).

Thank you!

A timely thank you to our loyal clients who have rolled up their sleeves in the name of better wellness at work. We also had some fresh momentum with the drop-in pop-up flu clinics, with businesses stating they felt like it was a value add from their end to host one and see families, clients and neighbours take it up as an easy access option. No more waiting for appointments! Each walk-in service had a fully qualified Doctor on-site; the point of difference between our VirtueVax quality care and other pharmacy options.

If you’re already busting to lock us in again early for a fiesty feverish 2020 season, your chance lies here, just scroll to the bottom of this page and complete the form.

Flu Season Stat Recap: early and intense

For those who want to cut to the chase and prefer a 1 page table and graph: click here!

Overall the season started well ahead of other years – we eagerly awaited the delivery of stock as Influenza cases started to climb early.

The 2019 flu cases were on the rise early.

Reassuringly the overall number of cases did not surpass the recent horror year of 2017, but remained second by confirmed cases overall.

An early and intense season second to 2017. The year 2019 compared with previous years.

Death Rates

In an online ABC article in mid August, it was clear the death rate for that time of year was a concern:

The national death toll officially stands at 430, although the real figure could be much higher with experts saying some deaths are attributed to other causes despite flu-related complications.

In Queensland this year, at least 84 people have died.

For our facebook followers [side note: we post all the hot legit flu & disease threads so feel free to become an avid follower here], you may have seen the gruelling emotional video shared of a local Queenslander ‘flu-widow’ husband pleading to encourage everyone to have their flu shot in the midst of losing his wife just days earlier. Three young kids left without a mother who was seemingly only unwell a matter of days before succumbing in a tragically rapid take-down. This post was shared in July so feel free to scroll back through. Warning: A tear jerker.
